Why this one stays private

Vectorising means handing over the logo - and a logo is usually the one file a company is most particular about. The sites that do this keep what you upload. This traces it in your own browser instead, and nothing is transmitted.

Questions

What kind of image does this work on?

Flat artwork: logos, icons, line art, screenshots of type - anything made of areas of solid colour. That is what tracing is for.

Will it work on a photograph?

Not really, and no tracer's would. A photograph has no flat areas to find, so what comes back is a posterised approximation rather than a usable vector. It is worth trying to see, but do not expect the photograph back.

How many colours should I choose?

As few as the artwork actually uses. A two-colour logo traces best at two or three; more colours mean more shapes, a bigger file, and edges that follow the image's compression artefacts rather than its design.

Is the result editable?

Yes - it is ordinary SVG paths, so it opens in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma or any text editor.
