Why this one stays private

Removing a photo's location is something you do because you are about to share it with people you do not fully trust. Sending it to another website first, to have the location taken out, defeats the point. This does it in your browser.

Does this work with HEIC files?

Yes - that is what this page is set up for. HEIC is the iPhone's photo format, which carries the same EXIF and location as a JPEG.

Does removing EXIF data reduce quality?

No. The picture is not decoded or re-compressed: the metadata blocks are cut out and the image data is copied across byte for byte. Most other removers re-save the photo, which costs a little quality every time.

What exactly is removed?

EXIF (location, dates, camera and serial number), XMP, IPTC captions and credits, comments, the embedded thumbnail and anything tacked on after the image. The colour profile is kept, because without it colours shift.
